La Paz; what a bustling, busy, boisterous place it is…

If you´ve been to any third world capital city before, then La Paz is no different. Dusty, noisy, what road rules!

Fortunately, because the dollar is working in our favour on this trip (finally!), we are able to stay in really good accommodation for less than we would normally pay for average. Bonus! The Hotel Rosario is no exception.  A little sanctuary in the middle of chaos really. Just the kind of place you need once you´ve had enough of taking La Paz full on…

After arriving by another bus, only this time we had been bumped to a ¨turismo¨ bus (ie a smaller 30 seater with no air’con and no dunny!), we hired two taxi´s and had the most ¨amazing race¨ ride of our lives. Because we in the 2nd taxi said ¨follow that cab¨, this was taken literally, and fulfilled by turning ourselves almost inside out to accomplish it. Whilst it was probably dangerous, we did laugh our heads off just the same.

After a fabulous dinner (chocolate mousse to die for), and a good nights sleep, we ventured out.

  • First to the Coca Museum (which interestingly enough reveals the link to Coca Cola; and should now include the alleged original recipe…),
  • and then to a couple of Squares,
  • and then wandered aimlessly a bit,
  • and then found an amazing little restaurant, the Angelo Colonial, for lunch (in the witches market area)
  • and then did some long-awaited shopping
  • and arrived back at the hotel ready to rest and recluse.

Once the rain started, that put a stop to any further participation… Stayed for dinner at the Hotel Rosario again (couldn´t help ourselves really).

Next, Rurrenabaque, as a stepping stone to the Amazonian Chalalan Eco Lodge… stay tuned!
