Mid-year School Holiday – 10 days to Central Australia ++

hello entrepreneurial mothers

I am fortunate enough to be involved with the following 10 day Central Australia tour commencing these school holidays, and so I am delighted to be able to extend an invitation to you and the students in your life (this includes your family, and any international students you may know as well) to come on this amazing indigenous discovery tour… just imagine how this hands on experience will not only enhance learning, but more holistically introduce us all to our unique country.

I understand that’s its very short notice, but I did not want that to stop me from at least bringing the tour to your attention should you want to join us. If this one does not work for you, there is also a possibility of it running again in September school holidays… TBA on that one.

So to find out all about it, click on all the underlined links below, and I look forward to answering any questions and/or making a booking on your behalf. At this stage, my daughter and I will also be going so please come with us. If you have “guardianship” concerns then I’m happy to talk about how we might make that happen.

School Holidays first…

with the mid-year holidays just around the corner, OzSee is running a 10 day trip to Central Australia…. yes Central Australia!
At this stage, it will consist of a small group and include all sorts of fabulous hands-on activities to do coupled with a high educational component for a reasonable price, as well as being lots of great fun…what more could you ask for?

what?
As members of the SolvePoverty Group Alliance, OzSee and Reho Travel wish to bring together a network of multicultural, multi-age student entrepreneurs around Australia.

why?
In response to the Australia 2020 Summit, this is about empowering students to find ways to creatively respond to opportunities in the indigenous communities, by introducing them to the communities in the first instance.

Link thousands of young Australians to communities through support for school twinning, exchange programs, mentoring, in country and community-based learning programs.
(Australia 2020 Summit report)

how?
By partnering with Reho Travel to conduct a pilot familiarisation tour of outback Australia by a multi-cultural, multi-age group of students selected from school and Universities around the country

benefits?
The selected students will form the founder group of an expanding Australia-wide network of youth entrepreneurs, with the first step being to get a snapshot of what it is we need to be thinking about…

And for the communities, they benefit economically by getting access to, and introducing visitors to our unique country.

And I can’t wait to go on it too I must say…
yes, if it goes ahead, I will be the tour guide so that all can rest easy, including you.

adventures Africa photos…

finally getting through the post holiday chores…
like arranging all the photos in order for show and tell!

so, rather than bore you with a full array of many digital masterpieces! (if you do want to see all, feel free to ask… I can supply a link which will take you to the web album on Picasa so just leave me a comment and I’ll respond with the details…)

I have instead sprinkled a few fabulous ones back through the relevant posts on the blog. That way the photos will actually mean something when you view them… I hope!

and as an aside, if you do have any questions about travelling with children, again feel free to ask. I have travelled with my daughter at the ages of 9 months, 19 months; 3 years old; 4 years old; 7 years old and now 9 years old so we’ve become rather skilled at it.
and of course, we intend to do much, much more.

the next adventure is already being discussed… enjoy!

Regards from Victoria Falls Zimbabwe

What an amazing place Victoria Falls is…
truly a wonder of the world.
Picture this… a couple of Australians standing on the edge, getting really wet from the spray, arms in air, screaming like banchees… yes that would have been us! and we even managed to get other visitors to join us along the way. We certainly laughed a lot. There were also reflective moments as well…

The little ones and I then rode an African elephant named Jack, the large dominant male. Call us lucky, I know! Bucketed rain on us the whole time though, but then we’ve got used to that.

What is it with us and precipitiation you may ask?… hhmmm no idea but it’s certainly been a feature of this adventure.

About Zimbabwe, it really is sad as I remember it being a beautiful and vibrant place (back in 1996) that we could not appreciate this time around. We came into Victoria Falls via Zambia and then almost straight out again via Botswana. No experiencing the place at all really.

But we did manage to the billionaires for the day! how you may ask?
Given that a $1USD bought $1.8 million Zim$, it didn’t take much to convert you into billionaire status…
first time for everything!
lunch alone cost us $42,000,000.00… go figure!

We’re off to the Okavango Delta tomorrow. And this where will see the back of our safari truck adventures. Yes, finally we will be getting off the beast, out of ant infested tents, and off damp mats… fabulous! And then onto Cape Town for some much awaited R&R, cleansing, pampering and shopping… which I’m afraid have been sadly lacking!

Its OK, we’ll be back to normal when we get home… promise!!

Seasons Greetings from Arusha, Tanzania

ho ho ho

I’m currently sitting in a patissiere in Arusha writing this quick update. All is going fabulously well, and we may have peaked in the animal viewing stakes as we have seen the lot already (in terms of the big 5, cheetah, leopard, rhino, hoppo and the piece de resistance… 3 lionesses with 11 cubs and the very same mothers killing not one but two wildebeasts for supper!!)… incredible.

If you want to see entrepreneurial mothers at their best, you cannot go past the women folk in these African countries. They make things out of absolutely nothing… quite amazing really. Prime examples are some of the jewellery we will bring home, bottle top bags, plastic bag mats and coca cola can Christmas trees… very impressive.

We are off to Zanzibar now. Can’t wait for that one as, from memory, its a fabulous little place.

Trust all is well with you.

happy new year from Lake Malawi

what a setting this is… could be the postcard picture perfect setting taken at the beach, but instead its taken at Lake Malawi… its so big you cannot see the other side. Quite exceptional really.

Lake Malawi

My phone is not working in Malawi… it would appear that Telstra does not have reciprocal rights here. So the next try will be Zambia.

R&R has been the order of the last two days, and well used too I must say… the batteries needed to be recharged.

Here’s to a wonderful New Year and may 2008 bring all you desire.
